MILITARY INCOMPETENCE

ON MILITARY INCOMPETENCE
Maj Gen PK Mallick, VSM (Retd)
"Separate ground, sea and air warfare is gone forever. If ever again we should be involved in war,  we will fight it in all elements, with all services, as one single concentrated effort."
--- Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight D Eisenhower after the end of Second World War
More than 70 years have passed since the end of second World War. Who does not know in modern times without jointness no war can be fought. Every modern armed forces of the world have changed accordingly. Even the Chinese is going in for integrated commands in a big way. The most honourable exception is Indian Armed forces. Second largest Army, fourth largest Air Force and sixth largest Navy of the world refuse to change! They still want to fight the war service wise from their own service centric Operations Rooms. Led by a Committee. In 21st century. All Command HQs of all the three services are located at different places! Not a single one is co located. For example in a conflict with China Eastern Army will fight from Kolkata, Eastern Navy from Vizag and Eastern Air Force from Shillong.

GURU POORNIMA - THE GURU IN YOU

GURU POORNIMA - THE GURU IN YOU
On days when the moon is full, its vibration, its feel, is very different than on other days. For a spiritual seeker, this day is like a boon from nature. Earlier, Guru Purnima was among the most important festive occasions in the country. Over time, it got relegated to the background due to ignorance and so fewer people were aware of its great significance. However, it is now coming back slowly into prominence with more seekers looking for spiritual guidance.

INDIAN ARMY - TUSSLE OVER EMOLUMENTS

TUSSLE OF EMOLUMENTS FOR THE ARMY
Excellent article by an IAS officer on "INDIAN ARMY"
"We need a permanent solution to this tussle over emoluments so that the armed forces need only confront the enemies of the nation, says T.R.Ramaswami IAS"

In the continuing debate on pay scales for the armed forces, there has to be a serious and transparent effort to ensure that the country is not faced with an unnecessary civil-military confrontation. That effort will have to come from the netas, who are the real and true bosses of the armed forces and not the civil bureaucracy. A solution may lie in what follows. This country requires the best armed forces, the best police and the best civil service. In fact that is what the British ensured.. By best one means that a person chooses which service he wants as per his desires/capabilities and not based on the vast differential in prospects in the various services.

How much differential is there?

GREEN TEA - EFFECTS

Avoid excessive use of Green Tea
Green tea is not as healthy as we all consider it to be, It does have a few side effects, just like ordinary tea or coffee.

Promoted drinking green tea as one of the healthiest beverages, green tea is made from the same kind of leaves (camellia sinensis) as generic black tea or oolong tea.
The primary difference is that while processing the leaves for green tea, the withering and fermentation procedures are avoided, which helps the leaves retain more nutrients.
However, green tea is not as healthy as we all consider it to be.

COMMANDING OFFICER

Words of a Commanding Officer of the Indian Army
                                         REALITY CHECK for the nation
A CO in the Indian Army recently wrote:-
"This is not a post for the weak hearted and Adarsh Liberals so do not go any further if you are out of your comfort zone.
It really pains a soldier's heart if the blood of his brethren is not adequate to galvanize a nation.
This nation is so ungrateful, the intelligentsia so spineless and intellectual class so bigoted that they will get mobilised by tragedies of Peshawar, Gaza or France. However, they are immune to our own suffering. Why? I will tell you why, because it is fashionable to get associated with a global cause, it makes you look cool, it is easier to talk about it sipping a single malt in a comfortable South Delhi mansion.

CAPT SAHOTA - STORY OP PAWAN

Story of Capt S S Sahota
 told by Col Prabir Sengupta.

'Op Pawan' (Indian Army operations in Sri Lanka, 1987) was launched and ours being a tambi (troops from South India) battalion we were handpicked to be among the first to be inducted in Sri Lanka. Our affinity to the civil populace, language and similarity of men would give us an edge while conducting any operation. This was the premise and here we were in the jungles of Sri Lanka chasing the dreaded Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam LTTE. Well, for the uninitiated, this was nothing we had prepared ourselves for. The LTTE were a formidable foe and gave us a torrid time settling down.

KNEE SURGERY

KNEE SURGERY - PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
BY COL NC GUPTA
At 70 Years age today, Knee problem is something, many of us are likely to face in the years ahead. On instance of some, I have decided to share my most memorable experience, of a successful text book knee surgery,  I had at R&R New Delhi. Even if this experience could help one among you, it would for me, be an exercise worth its weight of penning in gold

I went to R&R in the last week of May 2016 for getting a referral for knee surgery at Max. The question I was asked was "Why Max and why not R&R." I said  "I have come from Australia and had JRC, as my first preference, but was going in for Max due to the waiting time at R&R." I was pleasantly surprised when I was given the date of 04 June for surgery and also told that waiting is now a thing of the past and JRC was performing 6 to 7 surgeries per day

Bharat Ratna is India's highest civilian award.
I think it is a mistake to give it to cricketers and Bollywood people merely for their fame and talent.

KASHMIR - LET US STAND BY OUR SOLDIERS

*LET US STAND BY OUR SOLDIERS IN KASHMIR*
BY  CAPT AMARINDER SINGH Ex Chief Minister Punjab

The Army must be allowed to bring militancy under control to a point where those professing it realise that the time has come to talk. Yes, people will die in the ensuing action, then so be it. Kashmir is Indian territory. If those owing allegiance to Pakistan’s ISI continue to create instability, then they must face the music.
Let us stand by our soldiers in Kashmir

The situation in J&K is such that the Army is damned if it acts and damned if it does not. It needs the government’s backing. AFP

ITR-1 AY 2016-17, FILLING FOR PAPER FILING

Posted: 18 Jul 2016 05:58 AM PDT
In the era of e-filing, small mistakes lead either to delayed or complete denial of income tax refunds. So, avoid these 5 common mistakes that could lead to the delay in refunds.
None-filing of income tax return
Often taxpayers are of the opinion that their refund will come directly without filing income tax return. While some of them have the habit to file it manually. But, from June 2015, the income tax department (ITD) has made it mandatory to e-file income tax return (ITR) for people who are seeking income tax refund. So, file your return online if you are expecting any refund.

MORAL COURAGE - Late FM Manekshaw

   **MORAL COURAGE**

To all those Yes Man, and blind followers of any one, here is what Morale Courage means, and from none other than Late FM Manekshaw. I was fortunate to listen to him at more than one occasion. I am pasting the excerpts from his speech the portion about Morale Courage. Each word of his speech was worth million dollars, and exceptional orator and a wonderful soldier. I wish we could be just shadow of him: Please read it.

What is moral courage?

Moral courage is the ability to distinguish right from wrong and having done so, say so when asked, irrespective of what your superiors might think or what your colleagues or your subordinates might want. A ‘yes man’ is a dangerous man. He may rise very high, he might even become the Managing Director of a company. He may do anything but he can never make a leader because he will be used by his superiors, disliked by his colleagues and despised by his subordinates. So shallow– the ‘yes man’.

I am going to illustrate from my own life an example of moral courage. In 1971, when Pakistan clamped down on its province, East Pakistan, hundreds and thousands of refugees started pouring into India. The Prime Minister, Mrs. Gandhi had a cabinet meeting at ten o’clock in the morning. The following attended: the Foreign Minister,

 BENIGN PROSTRATE HYPERPLASIA (BPH)
A useful article/talk on Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) or in simple terms, Enlarged Prostate. Diet is the most important part of this talk which is something within our control;  and it works.
Is prostate strictly for men? Yes, ONLY men have prostate and ONLY men over 40years but the healthcare enlightenment is for everyone.
There is no woman who does not know a man 40 years and above – father, uncle, brother, son, friend, neighbor, colleague …   Responsible health promotion must provide three things:
1. Information
2. Reassurance
3. A plan of action.
Let me start with a background on prostate health.

Human rights and the armed forces: The unfilled space

These are the times for extreme views. These are times when people choose to let their fingers do the walking on their keypads without putting the brain into gear. These are times when important Supreme Court decisions are ridiculed as judicial overreach without even first taking the pains to read them or understand the broader import. Or else how could anyone justify the sharp reactions to the Supreme Court’s verdict onfake encounters in Manipur?

The past many years have seen extreme comments against Human Rights activists by those claiming to be

POMEGRANATE - YOUR HEART

❤ Bypass the Bypass Surgery ❤
By Dr Syed Zair Hussain Rizvi

*EVERY SEED OF POMEGRANATE (DELUM) WHICH GOES IN YOUR STOMACH IS A SEED OF LIFE FOR YOUR HEART....*

Two things are full of benefits for the human being, Lukewarm water & Pomegranate.
I prepared a decoction boiling a fistful of dried seeds ( _*Anaar Dana*_ ) in half litre of water for 10 minutes,  strained the decoction and advised those patients suffering from *painful Angina* to drink a glass of lukewarm decoction on empty stomach early mornings.
Amazing result was observed, the decoction of dried *pomegranate seeds* worked like a magic. The feelings of tightness and heaviness of chest and the pain were relieved.
It encouraged me to try more experiments on various types of cardiac patients.  So I tried it on patients who were suffering from painful *Angina* *Coronary Arterial Blockage, Cardiac Ischemia* (insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle) etc. They all had been waiting for bypass surgery.

*HYDROPLANING*

 *HYDROPLANING*

Reference the Death of VP-Bajaj Auto in a road accident on Eway to Pune in his BMW (he crashed into the Road Divider)
Sunday's BMW accident on Expressway happened because of *hydroplaning.*
Here's some information for us to share with our friends...

*How to Stop Hydroplaning*
Hydroplaning happens when your tires encounter more water than they can scatter, so they lose contact with the road and skid along the water’s surface. The water pressure in front of the tire forces a layer of water underneath the tire, reducing friction and causing the driver to lose control of the car. Learning how to avoid hydroplaning and regain control when it does happen will help you stay out of danger the next time driving conditions are wet and slippery. Although it can be a scary experience, the most important thing is to remember to stay calm.

* DILEMMA*

 * DILEMMA*

A perfect example for the dilemma we often face in any decision making.
A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other not.
Only one child played on the unused track, the rest on the operational track.
A train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the unused track and save most of the kids.
However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the unused track would be sacrificed.
Or would you rather let the train go its way?
Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make................
have u thought enough !!!!

INFLATION

The silent victims of inflation

Geetanjali Krishna July 15, 2016 Last Updated at 21:42 IST

The other day, when I was visiting a friend in Mumbai, her old cook brought a battered ledger for us to see. In it, she'd meticulously written her daily accounts for the last 10 years. As we glanced through pages of her spidery handwriting, straining to understand the complicated notations, I realised that I was looking at a valuable document. It was a poor woman's chronicle of the rising prices of commodities and how this had affected her lifestyle.

J & K REMARKS

Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh's
(Officer of Indian Foreign Service) -

The Constitution of India and the Civil Services Conduct Rules require a bureaucrat to remain apolitical. However, whenever a bureaucrat airs their views, it usually catches more attention as the public expects a bureaucrat to be more aware of the issue in question and to be taking a more considered view than the rank outsiders. It is precisely for this reason, that when Mr. Shah Faesal, J&K cadre IAS officer has spoken out on the issue of the "State maiming its own people" , I feel there is a need for another bureaucrat like me to offer certain counter views.

FRANCE ATTACK- WAKE UP CALL

The Nice Bloodbath: A Wake-Up Call To France And India

TWO COUNTRIES WITH COMMON VALUES AND WORLD-VIEWS ARE ALSO TARGETS OF ISLAMIST TERROR
MY ESSAY ON THE OUTRAGE IN NICE ON BASTILLE DAY

Islamist terror groups find the common values that unite France and India to be abhorrent. Nothing affronts them more than the fact that the two countries share the values of freedom, consensus, tolerance of divergences and democratic decision-making  The two countries must now take requisite steps to eliminate the scourge that confronts both of them. The time for niceties is over.
Terror can leave a person numb — with sorrow, anger, regret, and above all with the accumulated weight of memories and nostalgia.

conventional, or non-state fighters used for plausible denial,  trained by both Pakistan and China, against India. Although a conventional Military, the legacy Colonial structure of Police, Intelligence and a corrupt and incompetent, self serving Bureaucracy, has meant the subcontracting of Internal Security duties to the Army, for the most part except the Maoist Insurgency. The cadre based Bureaucracy, generalist and mediocre, have assumed the role of door keepers to politicians. Both with neither the competence nor, the experience, to run a nation's internal, and external Security function.

HAV KIRPA RAM - HERO

*Havaldar Kirpa Ram, EBR, Vir Chakra, the hero of the battle of Walong*
Article by Gen Panag

On the face of it, Kirpa Ram would have seemed like an ordinary man. In actuality, he was anything but that. He was an Equipment and Boot Repairer (EBR) in 4 Sikh and could handcraft shoes that would cost a fortune today. More importantly, he was the unit hockey team goalkeeper and had represented the Indian Army. Kirpa Ram was also the one who had tamed and looked after the unit mascot, Rani, a female panther. She followed him like a lamb and, if Kirpa Ram was to be believed, she was the reason 4 Sikh got the good grades it did in inspections.

FLYING SIKH

Hardit Singh Malik, The Original 'Flying Sikh' Who Was A Fighter Pilot In World War I

Almost 1.3 million Indians fought in World War I, but there was one who flew an aircraft and sadly, we don’t know anything about him. Sardar Hardit Singh Malik, was the first Indian, or rather Asian to join the Royal Flying Corps and participate in aerial combat on the western front during which he battled and shot down German fighters.
